ilent Heart, a mare acquired from Firestone Racing back in 2016 has probably finally finished her racing career at five years old. The mare finished fourth in the Ratherripe Stakes, outmatched by her competition. Placing out of the money isn't always a concern in horse racing, horses have off days, just like people. However, fourth and fifth places have become more and more often for the mare since we've acquired her. The mare placed second and third in her first three races of the year. Normally, we would consider allowing a horse to continuing running but we honestly don't think that the mare's head is in the game anymore. After her fourth place finish today we had her evaluated by our resident veterinarian who found the mare to be in good health. But with each race she was becoming less competitive, more relaxed and the more she placed out of the money, the more her race record would deteriorate. The mare hasn't won an HOTY race since 2015 despite trainer John Murchison's best efforts. Her stablemate who also came from Firestone Racing, Dark Maiden, is still leased under Highgrove Thoroughbreds, the sprinter mare is doing better than her G2 miler counterpart. Silent Heart will be welcomed with open arms to our breeding division, KC Stud, as she has one of the sweetest dispositions.
At five years of age, Silent Heart has done more than her fair share of horse racing. Now she will get the chance to enjoy the lush, green fields of KC Stud. As with all of our newly retired horses, she will get a year off which means no breeding, no racing, just time for her to just be a horse and enjoy herself out in the fields. There are plans for her to have a 2018 Apollo Bear foal, but we may look to Firestone Stud for other options as well.
