It was a particularly warm morning, well - as warm as it was at the current time of year. The sun seemed to have crept up over the trees just that little bit sooner, and Connie had found herself checking her watch on several occasions to see if she was running behind time. Funnily enough, even though she had inherited the racing stable from her Grandfather, Leo the exercise rider seemed to be her manager; keeping on top of her, setting the standards and always pushing her further. Not that it bothered her in the least, his experience far outweighed hers -- he had been lucky enough to work directly with her Grandfather, Geoff after all.
Once upon a time, the thought of a thoroughbred stallion might have made her instantly shiver in her boots. And yet here she was; atop the awe-inspiring My Remedy, loping with an ease that was owed entirely to his masculinity. Despite the testosterone that surged so potently within his veins, he was quite the gentleman if you respected him. Amazingly, she felt quite safe with him; if Leo had have heard her thoughts, he probably would have knocked some sense into her.
“I love this horse,” she called across to her workout partner, Leo, who charged alongside with their newly leased addition. Though on the outside there were no obvious issues between the duo, Leo’s response got her pondering for a moment; “Ha, I envy you. I can tell this thing doesn’t like me!” Connie shook her head, seeing no fault in the confident rhythm of the stunning black stallion, Black Magic. Then again, Leo did seem to have some sort of amazing horse sense, a secret window into their mind if you will.
They weren’t going to breeze today, Black Magic had just come off a spell and they wanted to start him back relatively slowly. Apparently sensing his company's ease and lack of speed, Remedy was more than willing to remain at a lope not far from Houdini’s side. It was almost suspicious in a sense; two mature stallions working with such willingness and apparent ease alongside one another. Connie didn’t doubt for a moment that the day would come when the two would see their opportunity to battle it out on the track, and do so. Today was not that day.
