Axis Mundae was a fantastic turf sprinter/miler mare in her time and among the top of her division, especially during her final season on the track. She started out her prospect career placing third in the GHF Next Top Racehorse Series and indeed lived up to the claimed title. She is perhaps best known for her abilities as a miler.
We'll start off by exploring her juvenile season. Axia made a splash by jumping straight into competition against not only her own gender, but the colts as well. The mare had miler tendencies from the start and proved it by winning the Unicorn Horn Juvenile Turf against none other than Silent Fury. Axia continued to make noise throughout the rest of the season, going on to place third in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. It was a powerful start to a great career. As a three year old, Axia ran quietly but well. She placed second in such notable races as the Debutante Stakes, Rose Mile Cup and the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint where she lost to rolling older mare White Chocolate. Career wise, her classic season was only the beginning of bigger and better things...
As a four year old, Axia won nine races throughout the season and absolutely dominated at the Wire. She only placed out of the top two once, and otherwise won such races as the Debutante Stakes and the Girls Festival while finishing second in the Unicorn Horn Turf Mile, the Star Festival, the Just A Game Stakes, the First Lady Stakes and the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint. We all know how difficult it is for a horse to just not place out of the top two for the entirety of a season. Only very special and dominating horses manage that...and Axia not only did that, but improved going into her senior season.
Once Axia hit five, she began to truly dominate. She won twelve races, a ridiculously high number for any horse, and nine of those were Horse of the Year selection races! Axia only placed out of the top two once, and that was a third place in the Breeders Cup Mile. Otherwise, she was only in the top two, and she was not facing easy competition. Axia's summer season was perhaps the most intense. She won the Monrovia Stakes, Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf and the Diana against the likes of stablemate and fellow champion Lynara's Kingdom and others. In fact, her win the Sunshine Millions came against Bella Luna, Paradise Island and Calamity Queen as well as her stablemate once more! These were considered to be top turf mares on the track at the time, and Axia took them all down. Her win the Diana proved her flexibility and ability at nine furlongs as she defeated Dazzling Dame, hailed as one of the top turf mares on the Wire's circuit at the time.
After a summer campaign, Axia returned to Green Horse Fields were she dominated in the turf sprints through wins in the Velocity Stakes and Speed Festival. By the end of the season, this stunning black mare was a true monster.
Axia won at distances from six to nine furlongs, excelled in particular at a mile and faced competition of both genders and from within her own string. She deserves a place among legends in the Hall of Fame.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS Axia thoroughly proved her ability on the track over the course of her final two seasons. She only placed out of the top two twice during her last two years of racing. What horses can brag that accomplishment? Axia thoroughly proved her flexibility during her seasons on the track, winning from six to nine furlongs consistently, and ended her career with a very impressive 29 wins. She proved herself tough enough to run with the colts even as a juvenile and won a lot of respect from her competition on the track. Though she was never awarded with more than an encouragement award, it is impressive to say the least that she won one for each season she was on the track! Axia was a champion mare and one of the top ones of her generation. I believe her accomplishments warrant a shot at the Hall of Fame.
