Truth Teller && Lara Hansen
Teddy was typically called the 'man of very few words' even as a yearling and now as an up and coming juvenile ready to make his debut on the track later this week. However, the colt was more rowdy than ever but the staff knew the exact cause behind the colt's behavior. Lara Hansen had already mounted the All For Glory colt, feeling the steel-grey youngster bunching his muscles before he let out a ear-splitting neigh. "It's amazing how horses know when something's up. He knows the Optimus Unstoppable colt is gone, hopefully once he gets his head down in racing it'll ease him a bit." John commented as he gently grabbed the colt's headstall before rubbing his nose affectionately.The colt's stablemate and friend since they had been foals had to be put down due to a pasture accident when he was playing with one of the other two year old colts. The stable's veterinarian had determined that the quality of life just wouldn't be as great between either of the colts. As a result, KC Racing lost two juvenile colts in such as a short span of time leaving many of the people who had been raising the colts devastated. Teddy pawed the ground heavily before being led off towards the turf track, John whispering sweet somethings to the colt and sneaking a peppermint to him - something the trainer never does as he tries to not baby the horses too much.
Truth Teller balked at the sight of the metal contraption even though he's seen it more than a dozen times over the last couple of months. Lara gathered the colt's reins and trotted him off a little ways, the colt whisking his tail against his flanks before bringing him around again. One of the hands helped guide the colt in and one the gates closed behind him he settled down quickly. Nose flaring before snorting loudly, the gates opened and the colt powered out of the gates with careful concentration.
It was almost as though the colt was watching where he placed his feet, calculating every single step. Although he was slow to start, it was evident that he had a lot of power saved up. He rounded through half of the ten furlongs without complaint before his jockey asked him for more speed. The colt obliged rather quickly, lengthening his stride and reaching out with not only his legs and head, but his heart, his mind. Ears flicked forward and one could almost say that this wasn't the same horse that had just left the starting gates. On the track, Truth Teller had moved away from the depressed mess of a horse he had become over the last couple of months and had changed into a strong, formidable contender of the track. He kicked up turf as he went, his breaths coming even as he powered down the track and over the marker.
Lara graciously patted the colt's sweaty neck as she pulled up slightly on the reins to slow the horse and cool him down. "I think he's going to do just fine." Came John's response as he stepped onto the track after Lara had slowed her mount to a halt after a few minutes. Truth Teller whinnied again and it dawned on John that the colt was calling for his friend, but alas there was no reply.
