Party O' War && Andy Hobbs
The triple threat siblings - Mardi Gras, Partyatthedisco and now, Party O'War - have been known as a pleasant group of horses to be around. Not only do they sport near perfect conformation, they practically radiate good vibes with their easy-going demeanor. Party O'War was no different, the last possible full-sibling to the two mares as their dam had trouble foaling the big black colt and had to be euthanized.Party O'War didn't let that change his look on life, however, even when he was taken up by a nurse mare. He quickly became accustomed to KC Racing and almost immediately started to look forward to his jockey coming down the barn aisle. "And I thought BB was a lotta horse." Justin McKinney sounded surprised as the tacked up colt was led out to the track, prancing as he went."BB" or Partyatthedisco was the colt's older 4 year old sister that was just a few wins shy of G2. Yet BB was lanky and leggy much like a greyhound, Party O'War - Conan - was built very similar but he had tons of power in his stride and he was built like an athletic tank. "You sure you can handle that much horse, Andy?" Justin joked as the younger jockey got a leg up into the saddle of the two year old. I don't need your input, Justin. Andy retorted as he clucked his tongue to the colt who immediately trotted forward. The big black colt was always a bit antsy when being loaded into the gate and as the gates closed he balked a bit before quieting down. Breathing through flared nostrils and trying to look behind him despite his blinkers it was obvious that the colt was ready to go. Andy gripped the horse's reins tightly because he knew what was going to happen next.John had instructed the jockey to never hold the colt back too much, knowing full well that if the colt was restrained too much he'd fight Andy the entire race. Soon the gates flew open and the colt shot out with a sudden burst of speed as though he had been launched out of a cannon. Easy Conan, going to aim for ten furlongs today. The black colt was always out to outdo himself, to go beyond the records that were set upon him. He settled into a fast pace and kept to the inside rail all on his own, his jockey merely there for the ride.He was an incredibly intelligent colt and was much more than just his looks. He dug into the dirt, seeming to purposely kick up the ground as though already anticipating horses running behind him. The colt wasn't afraid to play dirty and use the track to his advantage. With nostrils flaring, he rounded the last corner into the stretch which is when Andy loosened the grip on the reins and let the colt go.Party O'War surged forward like a machine shifting gears and lengthened his stride to cover more ground. To say that the colt was flying down the track was an understatement as he uncoiled himself and surged across the finish line marker.
