What's next for kc racing?
As Year 17 finally starts coming to a close, many stables are pushing to get their horses prepped for the Breeders' Cup, Dubai World Cup, Dubai Championship and other big name races as time is quickly running out. Other stable-owners are retiring some of their active racers, some who may have left a lasting mark in the industry, others whom they hope will redeem themselves with their new breeding career.
KC Racing, although still small and planning to keep it that way, has proven to have tough competition primarily in a few key horses which will be mentioned here. As December is right around the corner, KC Racing has already lined their ducks up in a row with a major game plan.

Rise me gold
Winner of the Consumato Derby, Valorizzare Derby, Coaching Club American Oaks, Acorn Stakes and ran second to Y17 Triple Crown Champion in the Travers' Stakes, this filly is without a doubt KC Racing's star of the year. The The Rising daughter is from the first crop of foals by this stallion and she has proven that this stallion's progeny will be entirely formidable on the track.
A lot of stable-owners put a lot of their faith in the first crops of their freshman sires as a first impression makes a huge difference in this sort of industry. With that being said, Rise Me Gold races and wins at the G2 level something her sire didn't hit until his four year old season.
She had a slow start to her juvenile year, probably from her sire's influence but she quickly picked up the pace towards the end of her juvenile year and has been going strong ever since. The bay filly narrowly missed her bid for the Triple Tiara with a second place finish in the Mother Goose Stakes but claimed vengeance by winning the third and final leg of the female equivalent of the famous series. Revered as incredibly fast and intelligent by head trainer John Murchison, the filly has been prepping for the Breeders' Cup Distaff and plans to enter the Dubai Filly Cup before receiving a couple weeks off before tackling the daunting series.
This is a filly that has surpassed colts in the past and doesn't bat an eye when it comes to racing horses of the same gender and likeness. According to John, he plans to keep the filly racing well into her fourth year with hopes of her running in the Dubai World Cup should she become qualified with her next race.
By all means, if you have not booked a future breeding to The Rising now is the time to do so as this sire is a formidable force and is turning out to be a proven sire of successful progeny. His owner Sammy is still offering an incredibly low stud fee for this stud so badger her while you can ;D Need any more reason to view our star filly's sire? Continue reading!
RISING WONDER
Another The Rising son out of No Wonder (Merry Bay King), this flashy red colt is more than good looks and a sense of humor. We didn't have the chance to own this colt with his dam when he was born, but we are almost certain that he hit the ground running. This colt is fast and excels at any distance from 9 to 12 furlongs without hesitation. Normally you'd get horses that run well at only 9 or 10 furlongs, or just 12, but Rising Wonder is mentally capable enough to match whatever pace is thrown his way and roll with the punches.
Much like his half-sister, he enjoys overtaking the field and leading the pack - to be the alpha dog so to speak. This colt has been running in HOTY races since he debuted on the track in January and hasn't looked back. He thrives on heavy competition as it keeps him on his toes and keeps him alert. If you were worried that there has to be SOMETHING wrong with him, he's got good looks, phenomenal speed, he has to be a complete ass right? Not even a little. Where his half-sibling is sassy, Rising Wonder is eager to please and boosts a certain air of charm about him.
Mind you, he's not a push-over he won't let someone boss him a round but he doesn't go out of his way to give you a hard time. He stays in his own mental space and has a certain 'yoga instructor' vibe before exploding out of the gates. He's able to do this because he's always focused, always listening, always watching.
While his sister runs on dirt, the colt excels at the turf which proves that his sire can produce two sides of the coin and actually be good at it. He is almost the spitting image of his grandsire, Merry Bay King who went on to be somewhat of a sire of sires. The red colt won his last race in the Turf Challenge Series and will be receiving regular training behind the scenes and much needed rest before his run in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.
If anyone is wondering what John Murchison has planned for the colt come next year, he plans to direct the colt towards the Turf Triple Crown to see if he has the same moxie as his sister when it comes to facing other horses of the same caliber and lineage.
ICARUS FLIGHT
This filly by Hall of Famer, Forbidden To Fly has excelled since her debut on the track at the beginning of the year. She is from a phenomenal pedigree with her sire the result of a pairing between a Hall of Famer and a Breeding Hall of Famer. A mirror-image of her sire, this filly excels at the shorter distances with room to go even further beyond her limits.
It's not always easy to acquire a horse that has a great disposition and talent all in one package. Usually you have to sacrifice one attribute for the other. So far the filly has only placed out of the money once and won multiple stakes races such as Carnival Crown Stakes, FTH Juvenile Dirt Mile and more.
Trainer John Murchison didn't have to think much about what direction he wanted to take this filly. She recently ran second in the E.L. Gaylord Memorial Stakes and will be taking a few weeks off before her first appearance in the BC. She'll be running against other top class sprinter fillies. Regardless of how she runs in the prestigious race, the filly will begin prepping for the Triple Tiara Dirt Sprint for next year.
