EARTHLY WITCH Who would have thought, at the beginning of the year, that this filly would have been the superstar of our juvenile crop? She might not be at the same level as some of our juveniles past, but she's oddly proven herself as a champion juvenile marathoner - if that was a category. Though she has yet to prove herself at shorter distances, we have every faith that her class and ability will show through in the Breeders' Cup. But where to put her? It's hard at this point in time to decide whether she prefers dirt or turf. It will depend on her final couple of races and the fields themselves on whether she goes into the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf or BC Juvenile Fillies. LADDIE LUCK It's hard to imagine putting Laddie Luck anywhere but the BC Turf, even as a three-year-old - which isn't uncommon, but we've yet to have such a strong contender as this colt at his age. The bay son of Foolish Lad and Valkyrie foundation mare Castle Siege has been running against older horses since his win in the Belmont Turf Classic, and he's been doing it in style. He's been putting together quite the resume to challenge the older horses in their champion field - and we've got every confidence he'll succeed in doing just that. TOSS UP Like Laddie Luck, Toss Up has already begun proving himself against older horses, and with his impressive resume this year the grade one colt is going to find himself running in the BC Sprint. Toss Up has been tried at both a mile and sprinting distances, but the Y16 Champion 2yo Colt has shown to clearly prefer the sprints at this point in time and he's a top competitor for the prize. WINGS OF JAYDE Depending on how the rest of the year goes, we may be running the So Sassy Sprint winner in the BC Filly and Mare Turf Sprint. While she is less frequently run than many sprinters given her dislike of a mile, she has proven herself well-adept to the turf sprinting mantle that she's taken up. The first foal of Sugar Jayde, Wings of Jayde has tenaciously fought large fields and a layoff early-season to still prove herself as one of the best turf sprinting fillies of the year already - and it's time to try her muscles against the older mares. OPTICAL ILLUSION Arguably the best turf sprinter this year, Optical Illusion has made waves after an incredible classic season to prove himself an even better senior horse. Winning over half of his races this year, he's proven again and again that he's a champion in the making. His record speaks for himself, honestly, and we eagerly look forward to the Flying Fashion colt taking on the best in the Breeders' Cup. |
