Highgrove Thoroughbred's have been very proud of their Juvenile Crop, considering their first seasons were all started some degree late. They were playing catch up from the beginning, and with all that considered and the odds somewhat against them, they've all done incredibly well. Though most have struggled to compete with the highest HOTY performers due to their lack of early opportunity in HOTY starts, the staff feel they will make up for what they have lacked during their 3yo Seasons. BEST MORE OR LESS is a seriously tough, resilient filly with a whole lot going for her. She surprised us considerably with her admirable consistency this year. However, currently coming to the end of another 4 Week Break, she has been raced relatively minimally. She is certainly at that stage where she's pushing beyond the level of Undercards, however with the big Juvenile names in every HOTY Race, we have struggled to find appropriate starts that will boost her experience without hurting her confidence. She ran valiantly in the AZALEA CUP FILLIES*, but pulled up exhausted. She hadn't quite been ready to tackle the field, and though she's tough in nature, we went back to work regaining her confidence. Bright, freshened and ready to go again, it's now just a matter of finding her the right races. WHAT SO NOT is another of our original starting 2yo's. He's an incredibly intelligent individual, and has the brains to problem solve and calculate the best approach in a race. We really feel with every race he runs, the stronger he gets. He truly is a horse that benefits from every ounce of experience, and you can always see after his starts that he's come away having learnt something. The challenge is usually in how important his experiences are - if he's on a low, he stoops very low. Once he's decided he's not getting where he wants go, he can become closed off and unreachable in training. However, the same goes for his High's - when he's on one, he's unstoppable. We are always changing how we work with him, as a horse with this level of smarts keeps everybody on their toes. After some less successful runs earlier in the year, he's been doing consistently well and has shown his ability to place in HOTY events. We are very excited to see how he fares come his classic season. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, a daughter of Jazzaway, is another that has been impressively consistent. Yet to place out of the money, she is durable, fierce and unrelenting. One of our few thoroughbreds who are less than easily managed, this filly has attitude by the tonne and she's proud of it. Showing the promise to start straying out of Undercards and into HOTY, she's another whom we have on stand by in preparation for the right start. This girl doesn't take losing lightly, and so we want to get her as well set up to succeed as we possibly can. She's placed second in two big races so far, a strong competitor in the MAGIC MILLIONS JUV MARATHON*, we feel that is just a little insight to what she is going to be capable of in later seasons. Definitely a afilly to watch!
