RUNNING SECRET
"Alright lets get this party started.." Mason said as he looked to Carrie who attended this day on the training front, both trainers were co-oping with training the newly coming juveniles to the new year. Samantha and Nakita were both on set to hiring another trainer to help with the payload of all the horses they had. Mason was here to watch the upcoming of My Secretariat and hoping that his racing style would differ from that of Gallant Pups. The bay colt was sired by The Underdog whose best foal on the ground at this point was Breaking Point who favored the turf surfaces. Mason had not expected that with any Underdog offspring however his lines could definitely pull off for turf with War Admiral and Stormwing. Dark Sunrise was also a dirt favored horse who gladly won her fair share of races in her time. Taro was also the half brother of In My Remains so he had a lot to live up to. Meredith was chosen to ride the bay colt because of her chemistry and calm demeanor, Taro needed experienced and she was just the right person.
Carrie chose Running Through Fire to join this workout as both horses seem to have the normal freshman attitude, the light bay colt showed a marvelous resemblance to his full blooded sister Reflected in Water however he showed a more muscular frame and a lean body structure. Getting another Radiance baby was something Carrie felt proud of, he was a stallion of promise and while Nature Valley seemed to hoard the lines they promised to expand other regions after this one. Terri Lane rode Runi as she had asked, because Meredith had the pleasure to ride Reflected in Water she wanted her chance at a marvelous colt. Runi wasn't as stubborn as his full sister but he could surely throw a kick or even a bite here and there. Both horses approached the track with their trainers on site each with a good mood to boot.
"Alright you guys take them out lets see where they fit so far it seems they can run the distances of eight to eleven furlongs so lets see where they fit in between there. Don't push them we just an easy workout." Carrie said taking over from Mason who crossed his arms across his chest letting his co-trainer speak. "Don't be afraid to let them loose, both of these horses have speed lets see it." Mason added before he stood out of their way to let the jockeys do their thing. Of course, Meredith had to settled Taro as he started his daily tantrum and once she got control the colt obliged and headed onto the dirt track without a fuss. Runi just kept his ears forward before he swatted his tail from side to side his mood well up that he kept on his 'toes'. The horses started with a low trot Taro keeping his distance from his stablemate while Runi kept to his own.
Running Through Fire had a weird style for racing in a large group he tended to precede the leader of the pack pushing the buttons of the others to tire them out before he gradually took the lead himself and went to victory that was how he was being trained at least under Carrie Donovan. In smaller groups he pushed to the back letting them build their confidences before he set off to the lead at the back stretch of the track. Taro was a bit of a different story, he had a lot of built in energy so Mason thought holding him to the back of the pack would do him good so when he was ready Taro would set loose around the pack to gain his lead in the final stretch. With a two horse workout both horses kept to their wits Runi was a quick monster he flew over the dirt under him, and Taro pursued the light bay colt with a fiery passion not letting him out of his sites.
Taro was a strong fighter holding his own the colt wouldn't let go easy becoming quite cocky in the lengths they had left. Runi started to become irritated with the stablemate and when Taro become in reach Runi showed his colors of nipping the colt that was close to him and within reason Runi pushed faster aching Taro on like a child would do to a sibling. Taro didn't seem bothered by the nips and scrapes from Running Through Fire and while he was gaining his energy the colt drew apart from the light bay colt. Fighting passed the last furlong the horses were now in a dual with the last stretch and once passed the wire both Carrie and Mason stopped their watches and when they looked to their times both held a straight face.
Taro and Runi were forced to come to a slow and that didn't do well for Taro who bit into the reins and pulled them from his jockeys hands before she retook them patted the colt's neck, "Hey Taro knock it off you goofball there is more running to come in your first race buddy...Great run there Terri." Meredith said finally gaining control of Taro and walked him off the track where the staff took a hold of his halter before they waited for Terri to come over with Runi. "Thanks Mere, I don't think Runi appreciates his stable mates very much. Perhaps next time I should try him out with Admonish." Terri said before she laughed letting the reins loose in her hands walking the colt off the track before she looked to the trainers with inspiration. Both gave a smile and praised the jockeys for their good work before settling back to the stables.
A full sibling to Reflected in Water was on the midst and they all hoped he would show true promise like his dear sister but full siblings were a bit of a pickle. They all prayed for a great first run and maybe the colt would inspire to become a Triple Crown hopeful. Taro was in the same boat, he was going to be set to come to be a Canadian Triple Crown hopeful he just needs a little push to get there. The potential to both these horses were wonderful they have grown to become beautiful animals and only race day would tell how this workout planned out. Carrie and Mason had a lot of work to do today and with these two being the first workouts of the day they seemed to be in good spirits.
