Chelsea’s Smile & Sammie Pickett
Helios & Johnny Garner
The road to recovery was a long one for the daughter of Frozen Motion. Countless hours of bandage changes, antibiotics, IV fluids, and a whole lot of TLC made the moment when Chelsea's Smile stepped onto the track for the first time, a good one. A very unfortunate accident almost costed Chels her life, but watching her trot around the track with a spring in her step made Carter smile. Every few steps, Chels would toss her slightly-dented head into the air, tossing her shiny grey mane behind her. Sammie hovered delicately above her back, keeping up with the antics Chels liked to pull.
Floating a few strides behind the grey was a sleek chestnut colt by the name of Helios. A literal personification of the sun, Sunny radiates energy and light wherever he goes. While he may have a mean look in his eye, Sunny really means no harm. His fiery red tail swished in anticipation of speed, waiting patiently for Johnny's signal to increase his stride. Johnny was the perfect jockey for Sunny - both seemed to be on the same page and Sunny really listened to the older man. He flicked his ears back and forth as he trotted around the track in harmony with his gray partner.
Both horses picked up speed, seemingly effortlessly, however they were still babies and it felt more awkward than it looked. They cantered beside each other, their long lanky legs moved in somewhat unison as they prepared for their first lifetime start. Chels raised her head into the air, sending tendrils of spit flying back into Sammie's face as she fought against the small girl, wanting to move faster. Beside her, Sunny almost looked like he was giving her the side eye at her antics, cantering along the inside of the track, his baby brain not wandering but focused on the task ahead.
As they finished up their last lap of the track, Carter smiled as the two horses thundered down the home stretch. Both youngsters looked ready for their race debut in January. While they were still growing into their bodies, they looked phenomenal thanks to their high quality care and treatments.
