It's not easy being the new stable on the block. With carefully curated herds of polished superstars storming down the tracks all season, it's been tough for Nightwatch Racing's small and relatively new crew to make a major impact. However, good things come to those who wait - and there is certainly much to be excited about on the horizon. |
Took the Night Nightwatch's resident boss mare took her time to get in the groove of racing, but is certainly beginning to find her niche. She has been shining in the sprints, with all of wins and places coming in distances of five to seven furlongs. However, "Tess" has made it clear that as long as she's running, she's happy, no matter the distance. After taking some time off to rework a few issues in her training, Tess came back strong in the Carriage Derby at The Wire, finishing in second. "We're still waiting for that Grade Five win from her," says Keegan Tyler, who has been to difficult to pin down for a full interview - she's always running from place to place. "She's more than capable. I could see her killing it in the big leagues next year. But only time will tell. Only Tess will tell." | Arrows Away Arrow is only recently returning to the tracks after a minor injury took him out of racing for a couple of weeks. Now, all is going well behind the scenes for this fiery stallion, and although he's been impressive in training, his immense determination to win on race day sometimes takes his focus away from his jockey. With three of his eight races finishing in a close second, Arrow is more than ready for his Grade Five win, especially at his preferred distance of eleven furlongs. However, this colt did show us his versatility by pulling off a place in the Hotel California Stakes at The Wire this week - but it's still not a win. "Arrow has this immense fire, this need to come out on top," says jockey Eric Lee. "He's not afraid to boss you around to get what he wants. When he's running, I can't hold him back, and then he just barely runs out of gas at the end." Soon enough, Arrows Away will be a feared and respected name on the tracks, but the colt has a bit of maturing to do first. |
Forget Me Not The bundle of nerves that was known as Nightwatch's weakest racer for months on end has turned the tables - she's nearly made her way to Grade Four. With a recent win in the Stalking Derby and a place in the Bonifica Derby, "Mia" has been surprising and impressing everybody. She's not a flashy racer - minus the palomino coat - but she gets the job done. Keegan Tyler sees her working her way to the top through undercards for the rest of her career, keeping her in her comfort zone, but Colby Tyler hints at the Red Mile or other major races lying in her future. more coming soon-- |
