STABLE SPOTLIGHT FRESHMEN
We may be two, but we don’t overdo!
Authentic Aura
Daughter of famed True Enough, Aura is not one to be overlooked. She’s been successfully competing in HOTY company this year, and is one win away from becoming grade four. She’s even beating the boys-in the Beyond The Limits two year old open at the beginning of May she beat three of them, including her own stable mate Chocolatier, who’d been on a winning streak! She’s a tough one, you’ll see her going in head to head.
Chasing the Sun
Chasing the Sun came to us from Blackwood, and has broken his maiden. Since he’s a little newer to the tracks we’re hoping to find some smaller fields so he can gain some experience and track time before letting him out to run with larger groups. We do not have any foals from his sire Prancing In Darkness, nor his dam Mystical Sunrise, so we’ll be testing the waters of the tracks to find out where he’ll enjoy being most.
Chocolatier
Following two disappointing finished, fourth and a sixth in Follow the Hoofprints, we’ve put Chocolatier on a long break. He’s been off for eight weeks, and he’s coming back July weeks three and four. We’re hoping the break gave him some mental and physical time to recover from his first few months of racing and prime himself up for a solid autumn of racing. We’ve certainly missed him on the tracks, but didn’t want him overraced, seeing some poor finishes piling up.
Classy Lady
This girl is just holding on out there. We’ve dropped her down into undercards, she has not won since January week two, her first race. She came in second the very next week in the Pat Witworth Illinois Debutante, and ever since she’s been holding her on in higher level racing with colts and fillies. She hasn’t quite been able capture some wins, so we’re hoping some undercard confidence builders will give her some extra oomph to get over her slump.
Creekside
Our lovely little surprise, tiny Creekside was pretty selective where she finished for most of the start of the year, and that was third. She’s placed there seven times already, and the year isn’t over yet! She’s turned around this summer and claimed three wins to her additional maiden break, so she’s gotten to grade four and has not yet placed out of the money! We’re so proud of our little angel, despite her small size she’s not being pushed around out there.
Englishman
Pushing for his maiden win, Englishman is a new addition to NDM from Blackwood Racing, who closed its doors. We didn’t want to see his guy sold off at auction to who knew where, when he hadn’t even had a chance at a career. He’s a dual router, so we’re hoping he’ll fill in the undercard spots our classier horses will vacate for stronger HOTY competition. We’re still getting used to him, he has a dual personality for on and off the tracks, but we’ll stick with him.
French Quarter
We had a lot of future hopes for the CTC with French Quarter, son of Hokum, but he has seemed to be floundering with the tougher races, so we’ve dropped him to undercards now. It seems to be helping, as he found his second win in early June, and hopefully he’ll get one or two more by the end of autumn. He may turn around yet, but those monster two year old fields seemed to get the best of him.
Ghost
Ghost is another one of our lost lambs this year in juvenile world, he’s had one win in late March to break his maiden, but half of his career has been out of the money thus far. We’ll just keep plugging away at those undercard races with him, and see if he can get some steam going after a little bit of a break.
Lux Aeterna
Lux is trying hard for his maiden win, and with such a small career so far we’re happy to see his mostly second places with the current level of racing. He’s a created boy who likes a shortened level of five to seven furlongs, something that’s caused us a little bit of hesitancy, but we figure he’ll run similarly to that of Sugar Demon, who also did her best at under mile distances.
Miss Abilene
Our plucky turf sprinter, Abby has really come forth with the results! Grade four now, we’ve started campaigning her in some HOTY fields to see if she’s got a bit more in her than we initially thought. She’s been doing better than some of our lined juveniles! Very surprising, we are hoping she keeps up her consistency.
Twilight Reign
With some thirditis and quite a few out of the money finishes, we’re putting another juvenile down to undercards. Our first Dynasty baby we had hopes for the turf sprinter tiara, but don’t think that might happen now. We’re going to try and get her a better balance of results, and hope to see her second win here soon now the second half of the year has started.
Virtuoso
Not being familiar with this boy’s lineage, we’re getting a fast update! Virtue has surpassed our original expectations, this season our juveniles are doing the opposite of how we originally believed they’d do! Virtue is no exception, as he’s begun winning HOTY races for us. He’ll have a mixture of undercard and HOTY to see how strong he can be, but he is grade four now, so we’re going to give him more of a challenge.
Wings of Angels
It took her a little while to pick up steam, but after a long slump Angel finally picked up two HOTY wins. She seems to favor the longer eleven and twelve distances, something we hadn’t bargained for originally. Sired by HOF Flashy Wings and out of Admiral’s Holiday, we aren’t giving up on her yet! She’ll be sticking with those HOTY races, and is our CTT hopeful for next year if she continues to improve.
