Breeding Information Interview

Question 1: How many foals do you prefer to have total from a stallion or a mare? Do you make exceptions or differences to that number for any specific purposes? How do you decide on the numbers?

Question 2: Do you have preferences for breeding pairings? For instance, do you have any discrepancies for created horses or lined horses, lined horses who haven't raced, or do are you willing to breed any horse to any other (so long as they aren't related of course)?

Question 3: How do you determine which horses you give other members breedings to and how many?

Question 4: How picky are you about certain lines staying 'pure' or mixing up a lot with a variety of matches?

Question 5: Do you make long range breeding plans or make them up as each season passes, and why do you choose to do it the way you do?

Question 6: How do you feel about keeping certain horses line rare or stable specific, such as a stud or mare who has 4-6 foals only for your own stable, versus letting each horse have one or more foals outside your stable?

Question 7: What are you thoughts on the foals who come from your stock-do you expect/desire a foal from them in the future for sure, at your discretion, or only with permission from the owner? Some stables have contracts with this feature in varying amounts, how and why do you choose your method?

Question 8: Any other comments, ideas, advice, suggestions, questions, etc. about breeding?
