STABLE SPOTLIGHT: SOPHMORES
We may be three, but we still run free!
Blue Heroine
The Breeder’s Cup winner has come to NDM from Grayson Meadows with just a couple starts this year. We’re planning on getting her into a few races to get her moving again in competition and work from there to see what she’s got this year. It’s a bit too late to try her for a sprinter crown unfortunately, but we believe she’s still on her game. She’s settled well to her new stall, and seems to enjoy her new jockey, who loves working with the crazy ones.
Don’t Count Me Out
Keeping her consistency so far this season, Callie has been performing in her entire range of furlongs. We’re very happy that she is getting this exposure, and we’ve trying to nudge her up a little into some more challenging competitions. With June off for a break, we’re also giving her a six week break in August and September to give her a good rest for the last few months of the season, where we’ll be pushing her into a few big races.
Eternally Smoldering
Coming off a first and two seconds in the turf triple crown, Smolder is doing his pedigree and NDM proud. For the second half of the year we’re keeping him to the big races, including The Green Miles series and Breeders. We’re hoping he can maintain his consistency, as last season he had a slump in the autumn months that this year we’re going to try and avoid if we can.
Italian Beauty
Once finally getting her first win of the season at the end of May, we immediately put Beauty on a break. She’ll be returning to the tracks soon, we’re hoping she can shape up a bit after some focused training and with a little more maturity we’re hoping she can start placing better for the rest of the year. Competition is tough this year, so we’re not sure what to expect, but we’re going to give it our all.
Justa Little Cutie
Cutie’s been doing pretty well for herself this year, she’s proving to be a nice little bread-and-butter undercarder for us. We tossed her into the Duchess Stakes at the last minute, expecting the last place she received, but hoping for the experience more than anything else. Coming out of that race we’re looking forward to the rest of the season, and might give her a few more challenging races to see if she can pull out some good placements.
Liberated Treasure
Although she’s not as strong as her competition, we’re mostly sure we’re going to give Trish a try at the Sprinter Tiara. She might be going in as the bottom underdorg, but she has been creeping up on some seconds and thirds to her competition recently. Depending how large the fields become for the tiara, we think she might become more a threat as the series progresses, but only time will tell.
Nutcracker Suite
We’re so proud of Dancer for having placed the entire year in the money! Having spent half of her juvenile season in out of the money places, she’s turning things around this year. We’re going to keep doing what we’re doing with her, mostly undercards with a few pop fly HOTY races to keep her wheels turning. Nothing too special, but one can still shine in any situation if they have the right attitude, and we think Dancer has a great one.
Phoenix Inferno
Not too much to say about Phoenix here, he’s just trucking along like the rest of our undercarders. Respectable, nothing to complain about. We’re going to put him in a couple harder races, to see if maybe he has enough gas in the tank to take one or two of the red mile legs later on in the year, he’s taken to the dirt tracks pretty well this year so far.
Pied Piper
Pips is pulling in for us this season. Last season he didn’t quite find himself, but now he’s almost grade three! We are entering him into the sprinter crown, and are crossing our fingers he can take on the competition. He’s a fighter that’s for sure, and just had a victory in the Boy’s Party sprinter prep. We’re hoping he does well in the Star Party so he has a good spring board to take off in the crown legs.
Stylishly Wild
Woohoo, Wild has sure been the wild card to watch this year! After a tiny end of the year start last year, we weren’t expecting how strongly this colt has come forward so far. Also one of our classic runners who is just shy of reaching grade three, Wild will be alternating undercards with some HOTY. We’d have tried him in the Green Mile if Smolder wasn’t running, but he will be a great back up to that series if something different comes along for his stable mate.
We may be three, but we still run free!
