** Rise Me Gold noses out Hysteria (the very horse who managed to beat Rise Me Gold in the Mother Goose Stakes) in a nail-biting finish.
W
hen Rise Me Gold first won the Acorn Stakes* by a nose over Miss Magic, we honestly didn't know what to think - or what to expect in the next two legs of the Triple Tiara. We've never had a horse that won any race of a major series while running under our stable colors. (This excludes our brilliant juveniles of this year) Head trainer John Murchison was beyond himself when the filly crossed the finish line. She was definitely pushing herself above and beyond her limits and wanted to show the racing world that she was not going to be counted out just yet.** On the day of the COACHING CLUB AMERICAN OAKS
Rise Me Gold had narrowly missed her chance at the tiara when Hysteria nosed her out in the Mother Goose Stakes. The filly looked downright dejected at the loss and her jockey, Lara Hansen, had quite the time trying to slow the filly down as she insisted on fighting her and wanted to continue running even after crossing the finish line. "She's not much of a good loser, is she?" Lara had grumbled as one of the KCRS staff came along on Conan, our grey OTTB track pony, to get the filly under control. Delilah had been at the track that day to watch her younger sister race, "Not even a little bit." The filly was on a certain kind of high leading up to the week of the final race of the triple tiara series.
Trainer John Murchison was against putting the filly through her paces on the morning of the race because the filly was practically raring to run somewhere, anywhere. When she had been taken out of her stall that morning to be groomed she practically ran over the stable-hand, tossing her head. "I don't know if it was because she recognized the smell of the fillies she's ran against before or what, she was just being a complete pain in the ass today - or to put it nicely, a diva." Giving up trying to keep the filly rested before the race, John had her led around the track at a trot (much to the filly's dismay) whilst being led by a track pony. "She was just so keen on breaking away." John had commented on the filly being loaded up into the starting gates.
But while in the starting gates, that was when the filly was at her best and on her best behavior. She seemed to know that this was the real deal, her final run of the show. When the gates opened the filly had surged forward, breaking evenly from the gate and lining right up with the pack although Lara kept a firm hand and a level head and refused to let the filly get ahead of herself.
It wasn't until the finish line was in sight that she finally let the filly run and that when she put herself in something of a deadly duel between herself and Hysteria. Nostrils blaring, eyes wide, Rise Me Gold met Hysteria stride for stride towards the wire. It looked as though it was going to be a close race until Rise Me Gold nosed out Hysteria right before the finish line, taking the win for herself. "If a horse could look smug, I'd say that Rise Me Gold was definitely playing the part." Lara commented after she entered the winner's circle with the filly. In truth, the filly did look smug, holding her head and tail high and trying to be the center of attention.

Rise Me Gold surprised KC Racing with her stellar performance in her bid for the tiara. We are unsure as to where we will lead her now, but she will be receiving a month off in July so that she can spend time grazing, playing and just being a horse.
