Nightwatch Racing may still be the new stable on the block, but it's racing roster is proving to be tiny yet mighty. With a herd well-balanced in age, surface, and distance, the team has much to look forward to in the rest of the season. Keegan and Colby Tyler are pleased with results so far, but are always looking for more. "We can never be completely satisfied," says Keegan, carefully observing yet another workout, "but I can't say I'm not impressed. The Maidens are being broken, the placings are high, and new faces keep finding their ways into our roster. For us, the season is just getting started. We haven't payed all our cards yet." As the year goes on, keep an eyes on this fresh and impressive crew - it won't be one to miss. |
Veracious "Vera" is a new addition to Nightwatch Racing, a yearling filly by True Enough out of Born to Fly. Although we prefer to save our Youngsters, not racing them in the Prospect races until the end of the year, Vera has been training well, and is showing great potential as a dirt router. After a few light workouts, she has already stunned us with her clean break and impressive endurance. We cannot wait to see what she does with jockey Freddy Villeda as she begins racing this Winter. | Wannabe Royal One of only two yearlings at Nightwatch, "King" is an exciting prospect with a future as turf sprinter. By Wannabe Hero out of Royal Invitation, King's pedigree lends him to being a flexible racer, but we have found the turf surface to suit him best. He will begin Prospect races this Winter alongside Veracious, and is currently being carefully worked by jockey Jacob Wellington. |
Took the Night Nightwatch Racing's resident boss mare, two year-old "Tess" is slowly building an impressive record for herself. After two previous attempts, Tess broke her Maiden in the Maiden Turf Sprint at Green Horse Fields over five furlongs, besting a strong field of horses. The week after her big win, Tess took third in the Grade Five Yarpha Stakes, and took fifth in a very large field in the Grade Five Yo Yo Stakes two weeks later. The filly will now enjoy a couple of weeks off, being lightly ridden in preparation for her next attempt to gather a G5 win. | Arrows Away Although one of the Tylers' favorite two year-olds at the stables, Arrow has been facing some struggles in his first few weeks of racing. After a few unimpressive showings over the eight and nine furlong distances, Arrow narrowly took second in the Philipper Maiden over eleven furlongs. Missing out on the win by just a head, Arrow will continue working on the longer distances as he aims to break his Maiden this month. |
WhattaTwist Despite not yet breaking her Maiden, the Tylers are confident that the big win is coming soon for Twist. The two year-old filly is comfortable with a busy racing schedule, and has been collecting showings and placings in turf mile races. Unfazed by absolutely anything, the filly requires little preparation before races, and can be ridden by any jockey without issue. With her ears pricked forward as always, Twist will make her way to The Wire next week in another attempt to claim a win in the Labarum Maiden. | Bayahibe "Bear" may not be the most eye-catching of racers, but the three year-old has been running impressively in the past few weeks. The first horse to come to Nightwatch racing, Bear has been showing his worth as a dirt router to the Tylers, carving out a nice place for himself in the racing roster. The colt broke his Maiden in the April Maiden Dirt at Green Horse Fields, and took second in the Grade Five Deschampbault Derby two weeks later. Bear will be consistently worked in the coming weeks, but will take a brief rest from racing before continuing to work on a G5 win. |
Forget Me Not The gentle giant "Mia" has recently begun to prove her worth as a three year-old, finally learning to overcome her race-day nerves. Jockey Nicole Wright has a knack for calming the anxious mare, keeping her focused enough to run successfully. Recently breaking her Maiden in the Catching Fire Maiden, Mia will make her Grade Five debut in the Saskatchewan Derby next week. Not a fan of change or adjustment, Mia is gradually becoming comfortable racing at other tracks, to the relief of the Nightwatch crew. After the Saskatchewan, Mia will enjoy a brief rest period, using the time to unwind and relax in the comfort of her pasture. | National Treasure Nightwatch Racing is lucky enough to be leasing six year-old Treasure for this final year of her racing career, thanks to Valkyrie Stables. This easygoing and willing mare has an impressive record as a turf miler, and will potential aim to compete in the later legs of the Green Mile series depending on her upcoming performances. She will next run in the Rampallion Stakes at The Wire, facing a group of equally strong Grade One racers. |
Santana's Legend Also coming to Nightwatch Racing on a lease from Valkyrie Stables, "Ana" is bound to become a new star at the barn. The four year-old is a strong turf router, and is incredible out on the track. She has been showing incredible speed and acceleration in her workouts at her new home, and although her first race with Nightwatch was disappointing, she is being carefully conditioned for a strong performance in the Pebble Stakes next week. |
