I'm not quitting or anything, so let me preface with that. But long story short, I'm not getting the enjoyment out of racing here that I used to. I don't know if it's because of my own changed situation as it pertains to the industry or if I just lost interest, but I get upset whenever a horse doesn't do well and don't even really feel that happy when they do win. It's not fair to anyone else and frustrating for me. Long-term I'm not good at campaigning the horses, and that's just frustrating for me when I have good juveniles that do horribly as 3yos, or good 3yos that can't maintain at 4, etc. I'm constantly vying for the later 3yo series rather than doing well early or having to get horses to 5 or 6 to get them to be any good, just by default of their experience.
So here's what I'm thinking.
I'm still very interested in the breeding side of things, and with the youngstock that I've barely been able to put time into. That said, I was thinking what I want to do with my racing stock last night. I want to split them between sale, lease, and retirement. I know we're going to be having a sale on here, but I want these horses rehomed as quickly as possible so they don't miss any more time racing. I'm going to get a list up later, but basically I'm going to retire my 5+ stock unless somebody really wants to lease one in particular, lease out the younger ones that I'm interested in pedigree-wise, and sell the rest. Anything not sold, or that takes longer to sell, I'll continue racing until such a time when I can rehome them. Maybe just cutting down on my number of horses racing will make me more eager again.
Realistically, I think I'll have way more fun just watching how my bred horses do. It's what I do every day with my babies, after all, and I love it. So, I'll focus on the breeding side of the game and the record-keeping that I've been neglecting and really start pushing my yearlings as far as getting personalities on them and entering them in prospects to get them out there - after all, most of them will probably end up for sale or lease when the year turns ;) I'll be able to spend more time helping to judge races as well.
I'll have updated conditions and the sales list posted later today after I go through my stock.
