Refute after winning the Year Sixteen Rising Fury Memorial Stakes After much contemplation, head trainer and owner Carter Leeson, supported by the staff at Firestone, has decided to retire five-year-old stallion Refute from racing effective immediately and will now be added to the active stallion list at Firestone Stud. Ralph as he is known around the barn, was acquired in his two year old season from a reclaim sale at Green Horse Fields. After a rocky completion to his two year old season, his three year old season seemed to pick up and continued to impress us into his four year old season, hoping that the luck would continue to run into his five year old season.
However, with the growing Firestone roster and many clashes with our turf HoTY runners, it was in Ralph's best interest to let him retire and enjoy the life of a horse before he starts his duties as a daddy. "We thought he would be able to handle running as a super senior, but it's hard finding races for him and he doesn't seem to have the drive of a racehorse anymore. It was best for him to retire now instead of injuring himself doing something he doesn't like anymore." Carter had no other comments on the stallion.
