† Sugar is usually calm and quiet but once in awhile she'll burst out of her spell and go nuts. She is good looking, and just has a look in her eye that makes you stop and wonder. She is not a horse that gets worked up for no reason and always finds amusement in everything. Everything is like a challenge for her that she must overcome. She is very ambitious and intelligent with a remarkable speed that will make you stop and stare.† Sugar was bought by Kaylin from Mythical Stables at a Thoroughbred clear out sale on GHF. Almost right away Sugar was seen on the track tearing apart the field and claiming an encouragement award for Y5. Suddenly Kirsten was approached by the owner of Mythical Stables and was asked to take in Dash of Sugar. It was of course an offer that Kirsten could not refuse. There were not many filly sprinters out there, it was exactly the horse that Akita Rose Stables needed. It was not very long at all before Sugar was out racing under ARS colors with Melanie on board.
And race she did. She absolutely tore up the track in all the sprints we could put her in. As a four year old she won the last two races on the Sprinter Series and won the Breeder's Cup Filly & Mare Sprint for the second year in a row.
In her fifth year she was even better! She won four major sprint races including the last two races in the Sprinter series again (for the second time in a row) and the Breeder's Cup Turf Sprint. It was a great way to end the gray mare's racing career. She was named Best Sprinter, Best Grade One and Best Older Mare for that year. She is obviously recognized as one of the best sprinters out there. She will now be starting her career as a broodmare and we hope to gain some more champions from her blood.
