A September Dance- Workouts September 17Y (Sam, Corry, Vera,Fisher,Sister)
The dawn sun came up over the the training tracks at Walk Among The Stars Racing. The cold air sting at Lucy’s throat. She had braided her brown hair and tucked it under her helmet. She was riding today for the first time in awhile she would get to take a racehorse out. Her green eyes watched the morning mist as it hung over the track. She couldn’t feel the cold with the jacket she wore. It was good to be here. She had learned to ride on this track high on her uncle's ponies. Now through this was all hers. The horses that would dance up this track where her babies.
Lucy held the bay filly at her side as Clarrie lead her running buddy Corry down to the track. Champagne had quickly become a barn wide favorite. Her barn name Sam fit her to a a t. They had raced just days before this may have been there lay off week but they wouldn’t stay out of training. Today was wednesday and they would make there first jog since their maidan start. They had ran in the Boondoggle Maidan against each other. They wouldn’t overlap too much once they had broken their Maidens. Corry would stay at the shorter distances and the filly would start to run at a longer distance.
Clarrie appeared the gray colt held as tight as possible. Lucy had banished the men to the barn so they could work Corry. He hated men more than any other horse. Clarrie mounted off the block. Lucy swung up from the ground. Sam came it at 14.3 hands. She was just a little thing.
“Let's try not to get too close. Corry might still decide to eat her.” Lucy said with a little chuckle,it was a well known fact the gray colt went after other horses.
“Sounds like a plan. Still just a slow half mile jog then.” The redhead said form the back of the tall gray.
“Yeah.” Lucy said as she asked the little filly to pick up a trot.
The gray and red horses moved down the center of the track. They kept at least two horse widths between them as they stepped along the center of the track. The tiny filly stayed close to her buddy. When they came off the track in a walk, only a few more minutes had passed. They swung down and lead the horse up to the barn.
30 minutes later the whole team arrived back at the track for a special work out. The three other racing horses stood with them. Jackson balanced lightly on the gray filly. She had come out of her race looking amazing. She had trailered back with Corry and Sam, the filly had come out of last race better than anyone could imagine. She had fit right into the stables too. Fisher and Sister stood on leads held by Clancy Reed the white haired man was eager to see the filly work.
“Take her out nice and easy, don’t let her out all the way even if she want’s to run.” Lucy said.
Jackson rode the filly out into the dirt track. His hands held the reins tight. He worked her up the track in a little jog then he set her to a canter. She wasn’t breezing up just out for a little romp. He held her back the best he could then brought her back down to a walk. He walked her off the track then slide off her back.
“She looks great, “ Lucy said as Jackson traded the filly for Fisher.
Clarrie had gathered up Sister. The chestnut filly really did look like a dun or something along those lines. More gold than the color listed on her papers ever would be. They all knew it was the only way she could be raced was if sher was listed as that color.
“Breeze them a half mile. Let then set a competitive pace. I want to see what they can do.” Lucy said.
With a nod the two of mounted up. Their mounts had come out of the same stable. There sire where also form the same barn but not the one where there dams were owned. Sister was the only three year old on there string for the time being. Lucy had been by to visit there sires at Nature Spring Acres. She had taken a shine to both of them even before she had brought their babies.
Lucy kept her eyes glued to the colt and filly as they jogged down the track. They were her kids in a way. She watched the jockeys move them around. Then asked for the gallop. Her eyes were glued to the bay colt as he drew ahead. Fisher seemed to kick it into racehorse mode as he rocketed down the track. The filly was hot on her buddies heels. Now the filly was passing Fisher. The where neck and neck when the jockey's drew them up. They came off the track breathing hard and sweating in the the cold air.
“Walk them out they put in a great work. They worked off each other . lucy said as she watched the two swung off the horses.
